May 7, 2008 Fishing Report We still have 2 days to go. Cass still has some ice on that south shore, but it's breaking up. Big Wolf and Andrusia are looking pretty good. Steamboat opened up today, but Leech still has quite a bit of ice. Best might be to check with the resort your staying at and they can fill you in on that particular part of the lake. Winnie still has some ice, but I talked to McArdle's Resort and they said you can fish quite a ways out from their place. We will be getting in leeches and minnows tomorrow. Shiners are tough to get, with all the cold weather and cold water. We are hoping to get some in tomorrow or Friday. Exactly how many, we don't know yet. We will be open all night Friday night, until 8PM Saturday night. Have a safe trip up. Stop in and say Hi. Good fishing. Froggy
May 5, 2008
Fishing Report We have high hopes for Pike Bay, Cass Lake, Big Wolf and Andrusia. Cass has really broken up in the last couple of days. Leech and Winnie are still questionable. I'll give you another update in a couple of days. Hey, Mike, can't you send some of those "shanook winds down to the lower 48 so we can get them there lakes unthawed? We are all out blowin' on the ice! Froggy
May 2, 2008
Fishing Report: Ice is starting to move. Midge Lake is open and Little Wolf looks about 80 percent open today. I was in Bemidji this afternoon and Lake Bemidji is really opening up today with the wind. Pike Bay should be open in 3 or 4 days, if conditions continue. Allen's Bay is opening up on Cass, but the main lake is still pretty much iced up. Andrusia and Big Wolf are out from shore, but I think 3 or 4 days will make a big difference. Winnie and Leech are also out from shore and we are checking each day to see what is happening. Please check our website or give us a call in a few days and we will let you know how the lakes are doing. Hope to see you all on opener. Froggy
April 28, 2008 Fishing Report We woke up Saturday morning to 12 more inches of snow. When it was all done, we averaged about 14 or 15 inches. I know we need the moisture, but we're ready for Spring now! Landings are rough on most all area lakes, so we really don't have anybody using them. Few people are fishing from shore. Most everyone is waiting for the warm weather and some wind, so the lakes will all open up. As soon as we get any information, we will post it on our website. We are getting the summer inventory put in the store. Had the whole family helping on Sunday. I'm hoping by the end of the week, we will have things somewhat put in place. Keep checking our website and we will do our best to let you know what's happening on the area lakes. Everybody is ready for the warm weather, blue skies and open water! Froggy
April 20, 2008 Fishing Report: Temps have been in the mid 60's the last few days. Landings are getting tough on area lakes. They are still pulling out some nice perch on Pike Bay and Cass Lake. Guys are using the south landing off of Highway 2, to get out on Cass and the east landing on Pike Bay. If temps continue in the 60's and they are talking rain on Monday, I would guess lakes will start opening up within the next week. Guys are getting out their boats and getting things ready for the opener. It seems to be coming really fast. I will be changing over the store this week and getting out our summer inventory. When your in the area, stop in and say "Hi". Good fishing. Froggy
April 12, 2008 Fishing Report: Well, we have really been socked with snow! Cass Lake had about 29 inches last weekend and then we got another 8 to 10 on Friday. Fishing has been slow. There are a few guys going out today. Most of them are either walking out or driving their 4-wheelers and snowmobiles. There is plenty of ice once you get out there, it's just hard going with all the snow now. We have been busy getting our summer inventory together and getting everything marked. We will be changing things over the next week or two. In one month, opening fishing will be here! When your in the area, stop in and say "Hi". Good fishing. Froggy
April 3, 2008 Fishing Report: What a day! Blue skies, warm temperatures. Guys are heading up to the Rainy River. We do have rainbows and shiners at the store. Should be a nice weekend. Froggy's wedding went off without a hitch. Good times were had by all! The Ellis boys provided us with some fine karoake singing! I didn't know they had it in them! Froggy got up and sang a few tunes, and so did Ralph and the area "good old boys",; Gary Frazer, Terry Larson, Steve Blue and Roger Pribly (from Monticello), all joined in to sing "Elvira". They were a real hit! Thanks Steve for providing the music equipment. Froggy and his bride are enjoying a few days in Mexico, along with some of their friends. He should be back in a week and then it will be time to think about getting things ready for summer inventory. If your in the area, stop in and say "Hi". Froggy's Mom
March 25, 2008 Fishing Report: Opening of Rainy River is getting close. We are getting in shiners, rainbows and crawlers for the weekend. If we can get a couple warm, sunny days, the river will open fast. Stop in and see us when your in the area. Good fishing. Froggy
March 25, 2008 Froggy is biting the bullet and getting married March 29th! (This report from Froggy's Mom!)
March 22, 2008 Fishing Report: Landings are still good and people are getting perch on Pike Bay and out on the flats on Cass Lake. Just wanted to wish everybody a "Happy Easter" Froggy
March 16, 2008 Fishing Report: Perch fishing is going in full force. You have to be mobile, but they are getting some nice percy in the 8 to l0 inch range. Sunfish have picked up too the last couple of days. Lakes are in pretty good condition for driving to your hot spots. We haven't had enough warm days in a row yet to do a lot of ice damage. Hope you can get out and enjoy what's left of ice fishing for this winter. I think everyone is getting anxious for warmer weather, blue skies and open water. Hope to see you on the lake. Froggy
March 9, 2008
Fishing Report: Yesterday was the kids perch fishing event on Pike Bay, put on by the Cass Lake Chamber of Commerce. Thanks to all the area businesses and volunteers, everyone had a great time! Thanks to all! Kids were picking up some pretty nice perch, so alot of people stayed afterward to continue the fishing. They were having good luck in about 27 feet of water. Warm weather is coming, so fishing is only going to get better. Hope to see you on the lake. Froggy
March 7th, 2008 Fishing Report: Perch have been biting on Pike Bay and they are also getting some on Cass Lake. You have to be mobile, start out about 18 feet. We haven't heard too much on the crappy and sunfish. I am hoping that with the warm weather coming in the next few days, that will turn on the pan fish. Have a good weekend, stop in and say "Hi". See you on the lake. Froggy
The weekend my buddy and I ended up going to Upper Red Lake, turned out to be a success. Thanks for the sucker minnows, we didnt end up needing the decoy sized ones, as the medium pike worked out fine. They produced 4 walleyes in the slot (released) and also a 42" pike I caught on a tipup. I didnt have a scale, but I know it was over 20. It didnt quite match up to the one my dad already has on the wall, so I decided to let it swim. Keep your line in the water.

February 23, 2008 Fishing Report: Great weather today. Think we've all been waiting for this. Can't help but thinking about getting the boat out! Fishing has been doing well on Pike Bay. Sunday is the last day for walleye and northern season. Pan fisherman are starting to venture out now. Seem to be picking up a few pan fish. This warmer weather should help the pan fish bite. I am going out for a couple of hours this afternoon and see what I can find! Hope to see you on the lake. Froggy
February 8, 2008 Fishing Report: Sorry, the Eelpout Festival is not until next weekend, February 15th and 16th!
Date: February 5, 2008 Fishing Report: Pike Bay and Cass Lake have been doing well towards evening for walleye and some nice size perch. Guys are going out and bringing back limits in a half hour to 45 minutes. They're working about l8 feet of water. Sure nice to be out of the deep freeze finally! Big Eelpout Festival this weekend in Walker, on Leech Lake. If your in the area, stop in and say "Hi". Good fishin! Froggy
Date: January 29th, 2008 Fishing Report: Pike Bay has been doing well with perch, walleye and northern. Area lakes are rough in spots, but there is plenty of ice. Everyone is driving out now. Sounds like a couple of cold nights ahead and then warming up for the weekend.
Date: January 7th, 2008 Fishing Report: Just wanted to let you know that the Cass Lake Fishing Tournament is set for next Saturday, January l2th. Friday night is the rules meeting at the Legion in Cass Lake and the Cass Lake Fire Department is putting on a walleye dinner fund raiser. Tournament starts at 11AM on Saturday and goes to 3PM. There are lots of really nice prizes. Prize for the largest fish is a sleeper fish house. Tickets are $30. each. You can purchase your tickets here at Froggy's and other area businesses. Hope to see you Saturday.
Lake: Fishing Report Date: December 22, 2007 Fishing Report: Lakes froze over and were making good ice and then we got dumped on with snow. Lots of snow.
Most lakes have a problem with slush. Guys are using snowmobiles and four wheelers to get out on them. They are picking up a few perch, walleyes and a couple of northern. It's just really tough getting out there. The only lake I have heard anybody driving out on is Lake Irvine in Bemidji.
We are suppose to have some cold weather this weekend. Maybe that will help the conditions.
Just a reminder, the Cass Lake ice fishing contest is January 12th, on Cass Lake. Tickets are $30.00 each, with lots of great prizes. Hope to see alot of you guys and gals there.
From our place to yours, we wish you all a Very Merry Christmas. All of us at Froggy's
We are getting our decoy minnows in tomorrow and have been getting out all the ice fishing gear this week.
Take care out there. Hope to see you on the lake. Froggy
We seen some really nice bucks and all in all, I would say our registration was about the same as last year. Now we are waiting for ice on the lakes!
Happy Gobble, Gobble Day from all of us at Froggy's Sports to all our friends and relatives, near and far. Froggy and the gang!
We have seen some real nice bucks come in, but the numbers don't seem to be there this year. Everyone seems to feel the weather has been too warm. I am thinking that with this front coming in and the high temps running in the 30 degrees; maybe this last weekend for zone 1 will be a good one. Hopefully the cooler weather will make the deer move.
Good hunting. Froggy
We had a gal from Clearwater bring in her 10 point buck last night. Another beauty! Way to go Breana Vetsch! Congratulations to Jacob Ellis of Cass Lake, who brought in a 8 point buck. He got his deer with a good, clean shot and no damage to any of the meat. It's nice to see these young hunters doing so well. Looks like the Dads and Grandpas taught them right.
Congratulations to all the successfull hunters! Stay safe and good hunting. Froggy
My daughter, Crissy, shot her first deer yesterday too. It was a nice Y-buck and she was so excited. Way to go, Criss! She is definitely "hooked" now. We are headed back out to the stand again this morning.
Sounds like we might have some rain and snow coming tomorrow, so hopefully the deer will be moving today.
Good luck to everyone and keep safe. Froggy
Sorry we have gotten behind on our reporting. Just don't know where the whole summer has gone.
We have had lots of rainy days lately, so there haven't been too many people out braving the water. There are fish being caught on Cass Lake and Pike Bay; some guys are going as deep as 70 feet. Crappies are doing alright out on Kitchi too.
We have had quite a few guys duck and grouse hunting in the area, with some success.
Everyone is getting ready for the big deer opener. We registered a big 10 point buck the other day; got with bow and arrow. It was a dandy.
Hope to get a big batch of chili made too for the opener. Stop in and check us out. Sign up for our Big Buck and Big Doe contest. First prize for the Big Buck is a 30-06 Savage Package; 2nd prize a 3 x 9 Simmons scope; 3rd prize a $25.00 gift certificate and 4th prize a $10.00 gift certificate. lst prize for the Biggest Doe is a 30-06 Mossberg ATR rifle and 2nd prize is a $30.00 gift certificate. Good luck hunters!
I imagine snow will be falling soon in Anchorage, hah Mike? Glad to hear your checking us out on our web site. Take care now.
Good fishing and hunting. Froggy
The northern action is getting stronger. The preferred method lately is using a red and white dare devil. A sucker minnow and bobber is still producing some nice northerns also.
Have a good day fishing. Hope to see you on the lake. Froggy
Walleyes are starting to move into shallower water with nice walleyes caught in 12 -16 feet of water. Many anglers are trolling on Cass Lake, using shallow running shad raps on the flats. Northern action is starting to pick up on Cass Lake too.
Anglers are catching nice walleyes in area lakes in 9 to 12 feet working the weed lines with a jig tipped with a fathead or shiner.
Many lakes have different regulations so it is best to have a clear idea of what and how many are allowed to be kept of each species.
Hunting is just around the corner. I always enjoy getting out in the woods. My daughter just passed her firearm safety course, so we'll have another Phillips in our group this fall.
Fall is a good time to not only hunt, but also is a time for some of the best fishing.
When you get a chance, stop by and say Hi. Good Fishin' Froggy
Stop by and say "Hi" when your in the area. Good fishin! Froggy
It's a great time to be on Cass and fishing. Shiners are the number one bait but leeches, and crawlers are picking up. I have also heard people starting to use Rapalas at night in four to six feet of water. The rest of the fishing has been 12 to 20 feet of water. Wolf Lake is still producing good fish. And Pike Bay is hot for perch.
Hope everyone will have a safe and happy holiday weekend. Stop by to say "Hi". Froggy
We will be busy this next week, boxing up winter inventory and getting the summer things out. I think everyone is ready for the open water and warm weather.
Stop by when your in the area. Froggy
Fishing has been good this winter. Pike Bay and Cass Lake are producing some nice perch. Winni is too, but you have to be a little more mobile there. Sunfish have been biting on some area smaller lakes and also out on Sucker Bay on Leech Lake.
Enjoy the winter fishing! Hope to see you out on the lake. Froggy
Fishing has been good on Pike Bay, Cass Lake and Winni.
Everyone has been getting ready for the big Chain Reaction Fishing Contest on January 13th on Cass Lake. Portable fish houses are allowed. They will have a food tent set up out on the ice and there are so many really nice prizes worth $100 and more. Grand prize is the King Crow Ice Pro fish house. What a beauty! Raffle prize is a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 450 4 x 4. The raffle and prize drawings will take place on the ice right after the tournament ends at 3PM. Hope to see you all there!
Stop in at Froggy's to get your bait and tickets.
Good Fishing! Froggy
Fishing has been pretty good. Pike Bay is producing perch and walleye and Winni has been doing well too.
Ice seems to be averaging about 11 inches. Caution should always be used. Most guys are going out on four wheelers.
I had a chance to go out a couple of times with Terry Larson in one of his spear houses and picked up a couple of northers. My youngest son, Ben, speared his first northern and now he is really hooked!
Cass Lake Chamber Chain Reaction Winter Fishing Tournament is coming up on January 13th. Tickets can be purchased here at Froggys, North County Junction Bar & Grill, Bluewater Outdoors, Clem's Hardware, Cass Lake Chamber and Big Tap Bar & Grill. If you have any questions, please give us a call or email us. It's always a lot of fun and great prizes.
Hope to see you on the lake. Froggy
East side of Pike Bay, ice has been reported to be about 7 inches. Allen's Bay on Cass Lake is reported to have about 4 inches of ice. Guys are using the decoy minnows and doing some northern fishing. With this cold weather the lakes are definitely making ice.
A good friend and local guide in the area, Terry Larson, from Northern Adventures, called this afternoon to let us know he speared his first northern of the season. It weighed in at l5 lbs. Way to go, Terry! Terry has both angling and spear house packages. You can give him a call at (218)335-2078, or email him at tlnoadv@paulbunyan.net.
Give us a call when your coming up in our area and we will let you know what's happening and what the ice conditions are.
Good fishing. Hope to see you on the lake! Froggy
I'm going to mix up a batch of my chili for this weekend, so stop in for a taste of Froggy's Hoppin' Chili!
Have a safe and successful hunt. Froggy
There are still walleye and perch being caught by the die hard fishermen and crappie too.
There have been a few deer registered with bow and hunters have been seeing more grouse then they have the last couple falls.
We have been busy doing arrows and cleaning guns, getting ready for the big firearm deer season.
Stop in and see us on your way by, coffee is on.
Wishing you good fishing and hunting.
Froggy
Cass Lake. The fishing on Cass has been good. The first two week was some of the best fishing we have seen in along time. Every one who was going out got fish; the fishing has slowed a little but still good. The shiners are still producing fish. The leech and night crawlers have started to pick up as well. Fish are also being caught late evening and at night with Rapala's . The pinfish are biting well with the warm weather. Kids are having blast fishing in the reads and getting nice sunfish.
Winne has been good also. Shiners are still the best. But leeches are starting with the fish. Moving out into deeper water. The humps are producing fish.
Big lake has started to produce walleyes as well as pan fish. This is a good all around lake with a little bit of everything to offer. So if what u wants is not biting you can find something that is. Please remember catch and release. Put them back so we can have fish for the future, and take a kid fishing. Pass on the sport…thank you Froggy
The Fishing opener has been the best it has been for years. The fishing was great and the weather was not that bad for an opener.
Cass Lake was hot. The fishing was good with many walleyes being caught. The size was good eating size. I did not here for big ones being caught but the fish where hitting. Blue and white jig and a shiner is the key. 10 to 12 feet was the most common depth. But I did here buys going out to 14 to 16.
Big wolf has had a bite on it that I haven’t seen in years. 8 to 10 feet of water. Jig and a shiner. Crappies are also biting well. In the bay.
Andrusia the walleyes are biting. The hump in the middle or the mouth of the river in 10 to 12 feet of water with a jig and a shiner. The leech are just starting but walleyes and hitting the shiner better.
Winnie: In 8 to 10 feet of water. Blue and white banana jig and a shiner are hot. The bite on the Cass Lake chain I think is a little better but the bite is good. High Banks and ravens point is where I would be heading.
Midge the pan fish are going well. The sunfish and crappies are biting. This is a great bass lake when the season opens.
Lake thirteen is producing walleyes. This is a lake that most people over look and it is one of the best lakes in the area. With big northern and walleyes the fishing is great. But check your law book for any special laws on these lakes.
Steam Boat The walleyes are biting in 8 feet of water with a blue and white banana and a shiner.
We will try and keep u posted on the area fishing and please feel free to e-mail me with any questions you have. Are e-mail is www.froggyssports@froggysports.com Have fun on the lake and please take a kid fishing. Practice caught and release so the future generations can enjoy the fishing we have….thank you Froggy
Cass Lake is also producing fish. Stony point has been great. 15 to 20 feet of water. Numbers are smaller but there are some nice 13 inch perch being caught.
Snow Report. The new snow has made the trail great. We have a lot of new powder on the ground. It is nice to see so many people out and enjoying the winter. IF you have been looking a good year of riding don’t let this pass you buy.Any question please call froggy. 218-335-6800
The Ice this year has been slow to form. But we are driving out on most of the lakes. I went out on Cass Lake and did well last night. We are finding some pound 6 perch with a few walleyes mixed in. Stony point has been hot.
Pike Bay has been producing perch. The bite is good and it is a great lake to take out the kids and get a nice bunch of perch to fry. There has been a few nice northern caught. Walleye are biting in the evening. Shiners are working for the walleyes and fatheads for the perch.
Grace Lake has been producing some nice sunfish straight of the landing, on the hump. Get in about 16 feet of water and use wax worms.
If you have any questions please feel free to call Froggy at the store 218-335-6800 . Thank you and good luck fishing.
